Two months ago, I broke a story that changed many lives. Your humble blogger uncovered the secret 30 second skip ahead button found on a typical Comcast (motto: You'll get nothing and like it!) DVR remote.
It was my own DaVinci code.
Yet, those muckity-mucks at Comcast, still upset that I feigned ignorance in locating my cable wire, evidently changed said button to jump ahead 5 minutes.
5 minutes?! That's a commercial break, plus two and half minutes. As the kids might say, Double-you-tea-eff?
Well fear not. The rebel alliance led by yours truly has found out how you can reprogram your remote to revert to the 30 second -- and not 5 minute -- skip ahead.
Grab a pen and paper.
Okay. Here we go:
1.) Press the CABLE button.
2.) Press and hold down the SETUP button until the CABLE light blinks twice.
3.) Type in the code 9-9-4 (the CABLE light will blink)
4.) Press the SETUP button.
5.) Type in the code 0-0-1-7-3
6.) Press whatever button you wish to designate as the 30 second skip ahead button. I recommend the PAGE (UP) button.
7.) Optional: Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee.
8.) Voila.
Your move, Comcast.

You made my night!!! I was so upset this week when I attempted to fast forward a commercial and instead jumped ahead FIVE minutes. I had to resort to the old fashioned way and use the fast forward button. Thank you, my brother!
just want to know how you figured that out...
that's awesome! now figure out how to fix the other button to go backwards 30 sec...for those 'wait, what did he say?' moments.
Not sure why this is breaking news because if one googled comcast 30 second skip, you'll come up with posts dating back to 2005, which is how long I've been using the 30 second skip. Cool that you figured this out on your own, but you could have saved yourself a lot of time. But maybe you're on to something. Maybe you can program it so it skips exactly the length of commercial breaks. Now THAT would be something...

Thank you!
Not that it matters because I just moved in with Jenny and Buzz. But last week I made the crying face when I discovered this change. WTF, Comcast.
I discovered this two years ago through an AV tech friend. (He reprogrammed it so I didn't get all the instructions..) It is the best thing you could program into your remote!!

My Verizon Fios remote doesn't require programming for the 30 or 60 second skip. :D
